UPenn 護理學全球排名第1

早前,QS World University Rankings發布有史以來規模最大的世界大學學科排名——在原有36個學科的基礎上加入人類學、考古學、護理學、表演藝術、採礦工程、社會政策與管理6個全新學科排名。而美國的賓夕凡尼亞大學(University of Pennsylvania,UPenn)於護理學排名第一!全球面對人口老化問題,各國對醫護人員的需求有增無減,同學若想入行,該校不失為最佳學術跳板

提升教學質素

UPenn的護理教育學院成立於1935年,是「長春藤盟校」中第一間亦是唯一一間提供護理學學士學位課程的院校。它提供的Bachelors of Science in Nursing課程為期4年,學生須修讀40.5個學分,與護理學相關的主修科目則佔29.5個學分,包括細胞生物學、基礎營養學、微生物學等等。值得一提的是,該課程1個學分約相當於一般大學3個學分,可想而知,學生要付出很大努力才能過關。

為了配合全球醫護發展趨勢,學院於2010年推行課程改革,不斷注入最新的醫護專業知識,例如,校方在首個學年會為新生提供「解剖及生理學實驗室」課程(Anatomy-Physiology Lab),透過平板電腦及顯微鏡投影器等儀器,提升教學效率,加強學生臨床實踐及個案應用的實戰能力。此外,學系亦與校內的華頓商學院、工程學系等合辦雙學士課程,如護理及醫療保健管理,藉此培養更多醫療管理專才。

實習吸取經驗

護理最重視實務,課程亦針對活學活用,成立The Helene Fuld Pavilion for Innovative Learning and Simulation教學中心,為學生提供模擬訓練。中心面積達7,000平方呎,內設各種先進器材,其中有一系列按年齡、性別、種族分類的人體模型,可模擬出病人的呼吸、心跳等生命表徵,學生可根據不同情況作出診斷和處理,加強應變能力。

有別於其他大學的護理課程,該課程的學生在4年學習生涯中會不停參與實習,校方更規定部分學分必須通過實習獲取。學生可透過小組式臨床教學及實習,接觸不同年齡、疾病的患者,訓練個人護理技能及團隊合作能力。事實上,校方除了在自家的醫院(Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania)提供實習機會外,亦與不少大型醫院、醫療機構合作,例如The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia、Living Independently For Elders等,讓學生作多方面嘗試,吸收實戰經驗。

事業發展廣闊

貴為全球No. 1護理學科,課程得到當地不少權威醫療團體認可,包括Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education、Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing等。若畢業生希望留在美國發展事業,須在成功取得學位後,參加專業資格考試(National Council Licensure Examination),考獲證書成為註冊護士,方可就業。畢業生可投身當地不同範疇的醫護工作,例如醫療保健中心、藥廠、保險公司等。至於想回港從事護士工作的同學,可將學歷呈交香港護士管理局,接受完評估後,同樣要通過註冊及登記執業考試,才能就業。

該課程於8月底開課,有意報讀的同學除了要主修4個核心科目外,另須選修化學科,建議各位提交中學推薦信。

 1.    Undergraduate and Transfer »

The only Ivy League program of its kind, one of the top-ranked nursing schools in the country offers prospective high school and transfer students an exceptional educational opportunity. It prepares students to become healthcare leaders by integrating a world-class liberal arts curriculum with a rigorous specialization in nursing.

Transfer Students

The transfer program at the University of Pennsylvania offers students an opportunity to join the Penn to begin their education in nursing, as a nursing program may not be offered at their present institution.

Penn Nursing gives careful consideration to academic preparation and achievement, and all transfer students for admission will be expected to have demonstrated rigor in their undergraduate curriculum at their current higher education institution and in high school.

Penn is a highly selective institution; as such the most competitive applicant for transfer is the student whose college and high school records and testing demonstrate academic excellence.

The transfer program is for those students who have taken at least eight college/university courses, including at least two laboratory science courses. ]

Dynamic Opportunities of this program

Students can combine their studies with Penn's other three undergraduate schools and may pursue dual degrees, such as Nursing and Healthcare Management, a dual degree program with Wharton.

Penn Nursing offers a variety of minors, numerous study abroad options, and sub-matriculation into any of our seventeen master's in nursing programs or into the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Opportunities abound to interact with our nursing faculty in and out of the classroom, including the option to assist with research. Penn Nursing students can fully engage with everything the University has to offer, such as clubs, college house life, and athletics.

 

2.    Accelerated Program»

Designed for students with a non-nursing bachelors degree who are interested in entering the nursing profession

Applicants who are RN Return students (those who have completed a Diploma RN program or an Associate’s Degree RN program) must apply to the Accelerated BSN Second Degree or BSN/MSN program.

Fast-track into the nursing profession

Penn Nursing's Accelerated Program is designed for students who have earned a non-nursing baccalaureate degree and are drawn to the nursing profession. Students enrolled in the program are ambitious, inquisitive, and diverse.

They have worked in corporate America, traveled to the most remote parts of the world, and have served as Peace Corps volunteers. They bring a wealth of experience to their advanced studies and enrich our community with fresh ideas and enthusiasm for learning.

Accelerated Program options

The BSN Second Degree Program is for student interested in getting a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, but are not sure of in a Master’s specialty at this time - Completion of the BSN degree allows students to sit for the NCLEX exam to be a licensed Registered nurse.

The Direct Entry BSN/MSN Program is for students who know what Master’s in Nursing specialty they would like to pursue - Penn Nursing offers Master’s (MSN) programs to be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Anesthetist, Nurse Midwife and Clinical Nurse Specialist.

BSN/MSN students have flexibility when completing the MSN program, which include the following:

-   Student have 5 years to complete the MSN from the date of the BSN completion

-   Student may request to change their MSN specialty

-   Students may also work full-time as an RN and complete the MSN program part-time.

-   Penn offers 17 MSN programs, 15 of which can be completed both part-time and full-time, the CRNA and Nurse Midwifery must be completed full-time.

-   Certain MSN programs require work experience, after the BSN, and prior to beginning any clinical coursework at the MSN level.

-   Students may take up to three (3) graduate level courses toward their MSN program prior to completing their BSN.  Generally, these courses count toward both the BSN and MSN degrees..

The Hillman Scholars in Nursing Innovation (BSN-to-PhD) Program in Nursing Innovation is for students to complete their BSN and go on to complete your PhD in Nursing – it is an integrated BSN-to-PhD program educating a new cadre of nurse scientists and leaders to develop innovative solutions in healthcare.

 

3.    Master's »

Recognized worldwide, master's programs at Penn Nursing integrate research, education, and clinical practice to create a unique academic experience offering concentration in a specific field of nursing while expanding the depth and breadth of your knowledge.

Master Specialties

Students in the accelerated program can choose from a multitude of options to focus their study. Penn Nursing offers 15 master's specialties, flexible degree options, and unique joint degrees with other University of Pennsylvania schools, such as the MSN/MPH and the MSN/MBE.

 

 4.    Doctoral »

Penn Nursing's doctoral program prepares nurse scientists who advance healthcare by integrating theory, research, and practice.

Recognized worldwide for quality in faculty and research, Penn Nursing's PhD program prepares nurse scientists for successful careers, particularly in research intensive environments. Graduates of the doctoral program hold leadership and research positions in academia, government, health systems, and industry and they develop the scientific knowledge that drives nursing practice.
