Creative Media (Humanities)

Creative Media is both a 4 year and 2 + 2 transfer pathway for students interested in pursuing or continuing on in the Creative Media Arts. Integrating various media domains, such as design, storytelling, and technology, the UHWO Humanities/Creative Media program provides study and extended practice in the student’s chosen area of competence. The 4 year student will develop within the breath of Creative Media arts that enables them to engage in creative problem solving from a multi-discipline approach. It serves students who want to work in graphic and web design, digital video production, and other digital media outlets.

Creative Media (Applied Sciences)

This provides students with an opportunity for professional positions in a wide variety of emerging media industries, such as Video Game Design and Development, Interactive Design, Motion and Visual Graphics, and Transmedia Film, TV Production and New Media; or a foundation to continue on for advanced education in Media. This degree is for those who have a passion for applying analytical and creative thinking skills in digital media.

Hospitality and Tourism

To provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the skills necessary to manage operations in large and small hospitality and tourism related businesses including hotels, restaurants, food service, airlines, travel agencies, events and attractions and more.

Culinary Management

Students will develop an understanding of the management, marketing, ethical and legal aspects of running a food service operation. They will also learn valuable communication and leadership skills that are essential for higher-level management positions.

Information Security and Assurance

The Bachelor of Applied Science with a concentration in Information Security and Assurance (BAS-ISA) degree program is the first of its kind at a public institution in Hawai’i and the Pacific. This is an expansive security education program covering a wide variety of technical and managerial aspects within the field.

Finance

Students will have a strong knowledge of analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills to assess the financial performance of a firm and design risk reducing strategies.

Accounting

This is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of accounting and the skills necessary to analyze, evaluate and report financial information as well as identify local and international issues that affect the business environment.

Marketing

Marketing students learn to evaluate and develop advertising, public relations, and direct mail campaigns as well as examine the science of consumer behavior and business in the context of promotion and publicity. This is an interdisciplinary business curriculum including finance, economics, information systems, accounting and management. The program is offered in-class and through distance learning instruction.

General Business Administration

It prepares students for management roles in small to multinational organizations. Students receive a solid foundation in business objectives and processes and are provided with an understanding of perspectives that form the context of business including: ethical and global issues; the influence of political, social, legal, regulatory, environmental, and technological issues; and the impact of demographic diversity on organizations.

Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration (BAPA)

It prepares students for supervisory and management roles in the public sector. With the BAPA, students will have the option to pursue graduate degrees in varied programs, such as Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Health Care Administration, Urban and Regional Planning, Management Science, and others.

Pre-Nursing Pathway and Partnership

UHWO offers an undergraduate pre-requisite courses necessary for applying to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. (Students who are accepted into the Ike Mauli Ola BSN program at UH Hilo will have the opportunity to take UH Hilo nursing courses at the UH West Oʻahu campus beginning in spring 2017.)
